Are netJACK, comX, netIC and netRAPID conform to PROFINET I/O Device Specification 2.3?

A

Basically yes.

The support of PROFINET I/O Specification 2.3 in a Hilscher product depends on two factors:

1) The netX Chip on the Hilscher product, with its technical capabilities

  • Performance for new required netload test
  • Support of optional optimized IRT features (DFP, FastForwarding, Fragmentation, Cycles below 250µs)
netX 100    – optimized IRT features are not supported / sufficient CPU performance for netload
netX 51/52 – optimized IRT features supported / sufficient CPU performance for netload
netX 50      – optimized IRT features are not supported / not sufficient CPU performance for netload

 

2) The used Hilscher PROFINET I/O Devcie stack

  • Switch Technology: Cut Through
  • IRT Technology: Relative Forwarder
PNS V3.4 stack
  • in accordance with PROFINET 2.2
  • certified on netX reference designs (cifX, comX, netX)
  • switch technology: Store & Forward
  • IRT technology: Absolute Forwarder
  • Netload: unable
PNS V3.5 stack and above
  • in accordance with PROFINET 2.3
  • certified on netX reference design (comX 51)
  • switch technologie: Cut Through
  • IRT technology: Relative Forwarder
  • API: modification of mailbox / acyclic data
  • Netload: able

Conclusion: Hilscher stack technology is PROFINET 2.3 conform

PC-Cards cifX

Technology is the same for the complete cifX family

Facts:

  • based on netX 100
  • PNS 3.4 stack established in market
  • PNS 3.5 stack proven and available since Dec. 2013

Conclusion: Easy upgrade to PROFIENT 2.3:

  • Same hadware and same tools can be used
  • Just load PNS 3.5 firmware
  • Adjustments in Programming / Engineering only needed, if
    • IRT has been used
    • Mailbox / Acyclci data has been used


IP40 Modul netJACK

There are two versions available: NJ 100 and NJ 51.
Note: NJ 50 is an outdated technology and will be repalced with pin-compatible NJ 51

Facts NJ 100:

    • based on netX 100
    • PNS 3.4 stack established in market
    • PNS 3.5 stack proven and available since Dec. 2013

Conclusion NJ 100: Easy upgrade to PROFIENT 2.3:

    • Same hadware and same tools can be used
    • Just load PNS 3.5 firmware
    • Adjustments in Programming / Engineering only needed, if
      • IRT has been used
      • Mailbox / Acyclci data has been used

Facts NJ 51:

    • based on netX 51
    • only PNS 3.5 stack available since Dec. 2013

Conclusion NJ 51: Already PROFIENT 2.3 conform:

    • Same hadware, firmware and same tools
    • No adjustments needed


Communication Modul comX

There are two versions available: comX 100 and comX 51
Note: comX 50-REFO is an outdated technology, which has never been acapted on the market.

    • based on netX 100
    • PNS 3.4 stack established in market
    • PNS 3.5 stack proven and available since Dec. 2013

Conclusion comX 100: Easy upgrade to PROFIENT 2.3:

    • Same hadware and same tools can be used
    • Just load PNS 3.5 firmware
    • Adjustments in Programming / Engineering only needed, if
      • IRT has been used
      • Mailbox / Acyclci data has been used


Facts comX 51:

    • based on netX 51
    • only PNS 3.5 stack available since Dec. 2013

Conclusion comX 51: Already PROFIENT 2.3 conform:

    • Same hadware, firmware and same tools
    • No adjustments needed

 


DIL-32 Communication IC netIC

There are two versions available: NIC 50-RE and NIC 50-REFO

Facts:

    • based on netX50
    • Embedded Gateway, which converts from Modbus RTU to PROFINET I/O
    • Bridge frimware based on PNS 3.4 stack
      → both NIC 50 types are not PROFIENT 2.3 compliant

Conclusion: For PROFINET 2.3 change to new NIC 52-RE & NIC 52-REFO

    • new netX52 based hardware needed: NIC 52-RE & NIC 52-REFO
    • new PNS 3.5 based bridge frimware needed
    • Pin-compatible
    • Function-compatible
    • Adjustments:
      • Customer design can stay the same
      • Change in programming / engineering only for new features e.g. PN IRT

 


Chip-Carrier netRAPID

Facts NRP 52-RE:

    • based on netX 52
    • only PNS 3.5 stack available since Aug. 2014

Conclusion NRP 52-RE: Already PROFIENT 2.3 conform:

    • Same hadware, firmware and same tools
    • No adjustments needed
