Many features found the way into this release which may open new opportunities.


Especially the SoE - Servo over EtherCAT service is interesting for drive and encoder manufacturers. It enhances our netMOTION initiative.

Applications with Sercos II+III motion profile implementations can be ported to EtherCAT based communication solutions with relatively low effort.


AoE - ADS (Automation Device Specification) over EtherCAT is a Beckhoff specific protocol (also supported by Hilscher EC Master)

It is typically used in modular devices or fieldbus gateways, e.g. IO-Link gateways, to map acyclic services of single ports or modules to EtherCAT.

The Hilscher AoE API is very similar to the object dictionary interface (ODV3) and therefore familiar to most users.


VoE - Vendor specific protocol over EtherCAT - enables the user to implement its own protocols for a slave to master communication, via mailbox type 15 data transfer.


AoE and VoE were supported in former Hilscher stack generations, e.g. in V4, but are now also available for netX 90 based products.


The Diagnostic History API unburden the user application. The service handles diagnostic data objects automatically inside the protocol stack,
while the user can concentrate on the actual diagnostic content. This service is related to the EtherCAT emergency concept.

In the course of continuous development, many components of the EtherNet/IP firmware were updated to latest versions and several new features were implemented.
The Firmware is intended for certification test CT18

Notes on CIP Security

 

In parallel to the standard firmware, our development team is working on a security enabled variant of EtherNet/IP LFW,

adding the CIP Security feature and other security related functions to EIS V5.3 for netX 90 (not for EIS V3.7)

This variant will become available as a “prototype” firmware within the next 2 month.
I.e. it will be offered to interested customers for tests and development purposes only and not yet for series production.

Unfortunately we have to delay the final release of EtherCAT Slave Firmware V5.3 by another 4 weeks.
New product release is planned for September 22nd 2021.

Release of the loadable firmware

is delayed by approx 6 weeks

New scheduled product release date for both firmware generations is Oct 22nd 2021

If possible, we will pull in the release date.

The delay is caused by unexpected issues during pre-certification tests. These require deeper analysis.
Furthermore, code optimization for tight memory ressources of netX 52 required more time than expected.



The CANopen protocol firmware has been designed according to the CiA Work Draft 301 V4.2.0 specification.
It complements the portfolio of protocol firmware for netX 90 based products.

The Loadable Firmware DeviceNet V4 and v5 is released.

Both Firmware variants are developed newly from scratch and are based on the same DeviceNet core component. They feature a very similar API.

Therefore, the migration from a DNS V4 based application (netX 51/52) to a DNS V5 based application (netx 90) requires less effort.

The release of EtherCAT Slave Firmware V5.3 is significantly delayed.
New product release is planned for end of July 2021.

A pre-relase firmware, wich includes SoE, is available on request. However AoE, VoE are not supported by the pre-release firmware.

The delay is not caused by priority shifting, but by unexpected, unplanned additional development efforts. Thus an improved, earlier release date is not achievable.
